About CogniSource
What is the Pressure Index?
A live 0–100 score that summarises your current workload pressure across six risk dimensions. It updates in real time as your tasks, meetings, and interruptions change. As you log more history, CogniSource tunes and calibrates the score to your personal workload pattern.
What are Key Risk Indicators?
Six signals computed from your workspace data, each grounded in peer-reviewed research: SPOF Risk (solo-owned work with no backup), Capacity Overrun (execution burden against sustainable capacity), Dependency Debt (blocked work aging without resolution), Context Switching (attention fragmentation from project spread and interruptions), Burnout Velocity (sustained overload without recovery), Recovery Buffer (forward room to absorb unplanned work). See the Research page for all 40 citations.
What makes CogniSource different from other productivity and task management tools?
Most tools help you organise and track work. CogniSource does that too, but it also measures the cognitive cost of that work. Every task, deadline, meeting, and interruption feeds into six research-backed risk indicators and a live Pressure Index. No other personal productivity tool computes a multi-factor cognitive-risk score from your own data, grounded in peer-reviewed research. Most tools give you a list. CogniSource tells you what that list is doing to you.
How is this different from a mood tracker?
CogniSource does not ask how you feel. It computes pressure from the structure of your work. Self-reported stress is contaminated by sleep, diet, and a hundred other variables that have nothing to do with workload. Your tasks, deadlines, and meetings are not.
Your data and privacy
Where is my data stored?
In your browser. CogniSource is local-first: your tasks, notes, projects, meetings, and scores never leave your device unless you choose to save a backup to a folder you control. We do not store your workspace data on our servers.
Does my employer or manager see this?
No. There is no manager dashboard, no organisation view, no team rollup. Nothing about how you work is ever shared with anyone or sold. CogniSource was built for you, not for your employer.
What are private items?
Private items are hidden behind a local PIN privacy lock and removed from the normal view. They are excluded from CogniSource KRI computations and AI processing. Useful for sensitive work you want to track without it appearing in your regular workspace.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Your data stays in your browser. CogniSource does not hold your workspace data on our servers, so there is nothing to delete on our side. Your workspace remains in your browser until you clear it yourself.
How do I back up my workspace and use it on another device?
Your workspace lives in your browser. To protect it, choose a backup folder in Settings. Chrome and Edge save to that folder automatically whenever your workspace changes. Firefox supports manual backup file download. If your chosen folder is already synced by OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox, that service handles the cloud copy.
To move your workspace to another browser or device: export a full JSON backup, then use JSON Restore on the new device. Restore replaces everything on the target device with the contents of the backup file.
JSON Merge is different from Restore. Merge adds the content from a backup file into your existing workspace without overwriting anything. Tasks, notes, and projects in the backup that do not already exist in your workspace are added alongside what you already have. Nothing is deleted or replaced. Use Merge when you want to combine two workspaces, for example if you have been working across two devices and want to bring both sets of work together, or if you want to recover specific items from an older backup without losing newer work.
Import (.csv, .xlsx, .md, .pdf, .txt) is for bringing in content from other tools, not for restoring or merging a CogniSource workspace.
Features
What is the Command Palette?
Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on Mac) from anywhere in the app to search across tasks, notes, projects, people, and companies. Use the up and down arrows to move through results, Tab to cycle between them, and Enter to open what you land on. Type @ to scope search to people and companies only. To create something instead of searching, use Quick Capture: press Ctrl+Q (Cmd+Q on Mac), then a single key for each create action: T task, I interruption, N note, P project, M meeting.
What are @mentions?
Type @ anywhere in a task title, description, or note to link a person or company. The mention creates a live connection: every place a person is referenced automatically appears on their record. Referenced items can be conveniently filtered by notes, tasks, projects, interruptions, and meetings.
Can I import my calendar?
Yes. CogniSource connects to your Microsoft 365 Outlook calendar. Accepted meetings are imported directly. Private, free, out-of-office, focus time, and declined entries are never imported, so your capacity numbers stay accurate. Some work tenants may require admin approval before calendar sync can be used.
Can I import existing tasks and data?
Yes. Import tasks from CSV or Excel (.xlsx, .xls). Import notes from plain text (.txt), Markdown (.md), or PDF files, or paste text directly. A full workspace backup can be restored or merged from a JSON file on any device or browser.
AI features
What AI features are included?
Six AI features are included with CogniSource access: Related Items (surfaces nearby context worth reviewing before acting on a task or note), Extract Tasks from Note (reads a note and pulls out the actionable tasks inside it), SOW Intelligence (parses a Statement of Work and creates a structured project plan), 1:1 Prep (a structured summary of your current work, risks, and blockers ready for a manager conversation), Manager Email (a ready-to-send escalation email grounded in your real capacity data), Executive Summary (a formal capacity report built from your live pressure signals and forecast data).
Do I need an API key?
No. AI is included in CogniSource. You do not need to bring or manage your own external API key. The core workspace, KRIs, Pressure Index, backup, calendar sync, and reviews also work without using AI.
What does the AI use my data for?
AI features process only the specific content you send them in that moment, for example the task list you ask to analyse or the note you ask to extract from. Your workspace data is not stored on AI provider servers. Private items are never sent to AI unless you explicitly unlock them.
Getting started
How long does setup take?
The onboarding wizard takes approximately two minutes. Add your active tasks with statuses and deadlines and the Pressure Index begins reading your workload immediately. The more accurately you log work, the more precise the score.
When will I see my first Pressure Index score?
You will not see a score until you have logged enough data for a meaningful reading. Add your active tasks with statuses and deadlines, log meetings and interruptions as they happen. Once CogniSource has enough workspace evidence, the score appears. It runs on your current data from that point. After 14 days of history, CogniSource begins calibrating against your personal workload pattern, tuning the score to reflect what is elevated for you specifically.
What is on the Today page?
The Today page opens with a one-sentence verdict about your current pressure, followed by the Pressure Index score with an 8-week sparkline. Below that: Daily Flow (a live log of all workspace activity from midnight to right now), Today’s Focus (your five most urgent tasks, ranked automatically), a Yesterday card showing what was completed, stalled, and carried over, and weekly review strips for last week and the week ahead. The KRI breakdown follows below all of that.
What is Daily Flow?
CogniSource automatically logs every workspace action as you work: tasks created, status changes, completions, notes updated, meetings logged manually or imported from your calendar, and interruptions logged. Daily Flow on the Today page is a live answer to “what have I done so far today”: a timestamped record of all workspace activity from midnight to the moment you open it. You do not need to maintain it manually. It also feeds into the Yesterday card and Weekly Review strips.
Which browsers does it work in?
Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Chrome and Edge support automatic backup folder saving. Firefox supports manual backup file download and restore.
